Elite Armor Variants
Ascetic Armor
The Helmet of this armor has two blades sticking out of either side of it, quite befitting as the achievement to obtain it is Steppin' Razor, a Triple Kill with the Energy Sword.Assault Armor
The second Elite armor permutation to be unlocked at the start of the game. The only other variant aside from the default Elite and Spartan armors to be seen in campaign.Combat Armor
The Default Armor worn by Elites. And is thus far the only Elite armor to have an open mouth area, with small parts to armor the mandibles.Commando Armor
A specialist Elite armor for the Commando unit. Arguably one of the harder to obtain elite permutations. EDIT: Bungie is now allowing everyone the commando helmet.Flight Armor

Spartan Armor Variants
Bungie Armor
The Bungie Armor/E.O.B. is the cause of the flaming head, which is worn only by bungie.net employees. The flame works with any helmet as it is actually part of the body plate, which looks identical to the E.O.D. with one difference, it produces a flame in the helmet.C.Q.B. Armor
Close Quarters Battle Armor is a type of armor that focus on, well, close quarters battle. It was designed to improve survivability in close combat; specifically by looking at alternate methods of K dispersal and improving joint mobility.E.O.D. Armor
Explosive Ordnance Disposal is the detection, identification, on-site evaluation, rendering safe, recovery, and final disposal of unexploded explosive ordnance. It may also include explosive ordnance which has become hazardous by damage or deterioration.E.V.A. Armor
Extra Vehicular Activity Spartan Varient is a type of armor that focuses on greater vehicle activity. It was designed for increasing exoatmospheric endurance and improving mobility in zero gravity without the use of thrusters.Hayabusa Armor
The most unique armor that doesn't seem to fit into the Halo universe at first glance. Based on Ryu Hayabusa of the Ninja Gaiden Series and Dead or Alive this suit is almost an exact Copy of the Future Ninja Suit. A nice bonus armor for those who obtain all of the highly sought after Skulls.Katana Armor
"The katana is to be used as an extension of ones arm for those intending to be warriors." An unusable attachment to the back of the Hayabusa's body armor.Mark V Armor
The Mark V armor, as you most likely already know, is the armor that Spartans, including 117, were equipped with in Halo: Combat Evolved. It's pretty simple, just a model of the Mark V armor.Mark VI Armor
The default armour for Spartans. The Mark VI has been worn by Master Chief since the beginning of Halo 2, replacing the older Mark V Armor.O.D.S.T. Armor
Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs), AKA Helljumpers, (named this becuse of the extreme temperatures inside the drop-chutes) are an elite special forces group of the UNSCDF Marine Corps, commanded by Naval Special Warfare. They are dropped into their mission areas by an HEV (Human Entry Vehicle) low-orbit drop. This helmet will give a nice twist to appearance, causing you to look like the trusty, uber-marines, that you fight along side with. Disguise yourself in the all-tactical helmet of the O.D.S.T.Recon Armor
An armor that is a very rare variant. This armor also goes along with the flaming head bungie armor. (see Bungie armor) Firstly, only for Bungie employees, until Bungie decided to realease it to certain individuals who did hilarious things unintentionally withing the Halo 3 sandbox. Such as the Traffic Cone Death or the Self-Snipe Suicide. People can earn this armor by creating an amazing level on forge as well. However, if you are unable to create a good map or something amazing, you can simply start completing the Vidmaster Challenges. If you collect all of them, three of which are in Halo 3: Recon, you will recieve the Recon armor.Rogue Armor
The Rogue Helmet is the Mark VI (a) Variant which you get for being a spartan officer. Called a "rogue" helmet because it is manufactured by rebels. (The ones under Jiles)Security Armor
The Security Armor is a old variant of the Mark V Armor. It is closely based on the armor of the Marathon series' protagonist - if you look closely you will see a Marathon symbol above the visor.Scout Armor
The Scout Armour is a variant that was tested along side the Recon Variant the main idea being an armour with Stealth Capabalities with no impact on endurance, but this variant relies more Heavily on Advanced materials.
- To unlock the Scout “Body” Armor, unlock the “Too Close to the Sun” achievement.
- To unlock the Scout “Shoulders” Armor, unlock the “Mongoose Mowdown” achievement.
- To unlock the Scout “Helmet” Armor, unlock the “Used Car Salesman” achievement.
